Poem

I Cast Rejection

Before thee I cast shields of love unique,And chaste devotion not our age can speak;
None else, by thy right, could ever hope to claim,Enough for me to see thee — speech my aim;
Though others taste thy sweetness in their part,The first I saw when love first stirred my heart;
Two strangers meeting — each a stranger lone,My heart grew tender, and I said: be gone;
Around me turned suspicious, wondering eyes,And fate, against my will, drew us apart;
Thou wert another's portion, not my prize,Yet passion and my love lay buried in my heart
