Poem

I Love None But Him

Since Thou hast been my chosen, blessed friend,My fortune in this world is Thy content.
The hidden heart cannot be satisfiedWith love save God's—and naught beside.
From Him I am a light upon the earth,And see in Him the whole of mortal birth.
I love Him whether I be blind or see,In waking vision or in mystery.
From Him I am a spirit swift in flight,That quenches thirst upon His fragrance bright.
I've spurned their riches of my own free will,And He hath given me His bounty still.
Lovers declare that I am like the gazelleWhose passion stirs the fancy lovers tell.
If what they claim indeed be true and fair,None but Him only can my soul declare.
