Poem

Whispers of a Worshipper

My prayer is not a path to fading fame,That I should live for glory's transient name.
My worship springs from inmost depths of me,Revealing floods of hidden mystery.
Events have stormed across my heart, and stillEach gust hath left my hope more strong of will.
I swear by love of Thee, the purest sightBeneath the heavens and the seeker's light.
No eyelid closed, no thought did ever straySave to Thy mention through the busy day.
Death is more sweet than life where every dayI cannot find Thy love to lead my way.
The passion I have found in Thee draws nearTo every longing spring and fountain clear.
Had I not yearned for refuge at Thy door,I'd see around me spears and nothing more.
This rapture, on its journey far and wide,Is for the wounded soul its dearest guide.
I'll love my Lord and none beside, that IMay rest in perfect love that cannot die.
Let not Thy light depart from where I dwell,In Thee my hope, my trust, my optimism tell.
O Lord, grant me contentment found in Thee,And quench my thirst from that supreme bounty.
