Physician of the heart, ease all I bear,Thy healing is the restless heart's best care.
When sorrow of the nights doth still my breast,Thy mercy, Lord All-Hearing, is my rest.
I flee to Thee when self cannot prevail,Against a sickness born of thought's travail.
When darkness gathers on my mind's far shore,Thy wondrous verses are my solace more.
Thou lull'st me as a mother lulls her child,Thy tenderness hath wiped the tears defiled.
The heavens' songs began, their echo rangAnd stirred my feelings into hush and sang.
Like zephyrs breathing on a wounded heartThat smoulders still within the ribs apart.
Exalted God, who healeth every sore,And spreads His light through spirits that implore.
