Poem

An Artist Wish

He cried: "Paint for me the fancies of the brush!"He cried: "Let me hear melody's sweet rush!"
He cried: "Long pain has healed my wounded core—"A heart that lived where blame and censure bore.
The heart grew young to thousand vows that bind,As faithful Amin kept the oath enshrined.
Desire healed my heart, and drew it nearTo Art's high Kaaba, radiant and clear.
He circled it, then prayed a prayer complete,As prophets prayed within the holy seat.
He gave his love to Art, and bowed his headIn stillness, passion's fire around him spread.
O artist, come—let us unveil the artThat God bestowed with blessings on the heart.
We'll feed on flowers, tend the hill's green side,At foothills or where mountain peaks abide.
At foothills we shall build our nest of bloom,From flower-edges or the thicket's room.
Where none shall spy on love, nor whisper blame,Nor stir suspicion, scandal, or defame.
Then on the hill we'll spend our day in bliss,Sipping from lips that smile and grant a kiss.
In paradise of love she pours out hope;We serve like handmaids on love's golden slope.
Then toward a throne in heaven we shall wend,Where Love sits crowned—bless Love, our sovereign friend!
We'll paint our hopes; the world shall be our own; We'll wake the verse, with wisdom's wine o'erthrown.
We see mankind engulfed in waves of night,While we who dwell on passion's height
Know neither misery nor sickness' sting;Love's radiance to them in peace we bring.
The god of Love has raised his voice on high—No reproach, no regret, no bitter sigh.
Behold eternity's clear river flow:Drink deep that wine which mortals scarce may know!
Grant kindness to the deprived, that they may blessThe world with goodness and with happiness.
Grant the deprived the tenderness they crave,That they may repay the world with goodness brave!
