Poem

To Jaafar Nimeiri

On the occasion of the coup that occurred in Sudan

Which ended in failure, and victory to President Nimeiri

For God and people stand with him
The dawn appeared, dispelling mist and gloom,
And Nimeiri's sword lit every mountain's room;
The Arabs' steeds neighed loudly in the sky,
And marched upon the tyrants with scourge on high;
The world's eyes watched throughout the sleepless night,
Fearing the blaze of that resplendent light;
Hopes pressed around their radiance, drawing near,
As spheres converge above the ocean's sphere;
Behold the army of the right in fervent heat,
They strike — none linger at the rear, retreat;
They terrified the enemy's array,
And routed remnants with their swords that day;
And Anwar with Nimeiri in unity
Revive our Arabism through eternity;
They marched together in strength and solidarity,
United in the unity of destiny;
This Arabism fears not its enemies,
The lion fears not any wolf-pack's tease;
Arabism's unity shall not be torn,
Its portion in triumph is nobly born.
