O soldier, row and set forth on thy way,The voices of the waves resound today;
This world, since time's beginning, has been stillA paradise whose title is ordeal;
O thou who lingered in the land of night,The caller summoned — hasten to the light;
Shatter the walls for sake of peace and right,Triumph for truth — fear not the wolves' despite;
Row forth today with spirit newly woke,And cross the sea swift as the meteor's stroke;
Care not if raging fire should challenge thee,The ship is safe through reefs of open sea;
O hero, thou dost not fear toil's heavy hand,And tears of soul flow freely as they stand;
Arise, adorn thyself with prophets' dress,And bear the burden of all men's distress;
If blame should strike thee in this poisoned age,Or sickness pour its draught upon thy page,
Or starlight's radiance dissolve and fade,Care not — the mist shall soon be dispelled and swayed;
The torch of mystery appeared behind the veil,Guiding the traveller on the path that's hale;
God's light therein directs each company,Beware the lights that gleam from mirage's sea;
O soldier, symbol of our hope and dream,Here sun has veiled itself as in a scheme;
It shall arise after despair and pain,Like bride that dawned when gloom could not remain.
